Aaron Huey: Aaron Huey is a photojournalist who freelances regularlyfor Harper's, The New Yorker, the Smithsonian magazine, the New York Times, GEO and dozens of others. He is also a masthead photographer for National Geographic Traveler.
Carlos Cazalis: Carlos Cazalis began his career photographing the Zapatista rebellion in 1994. Two years later he joined AFP shooting news and documenting transvestites, children on the street and bullfighting, an going project in four different countries. In 2003 he began working for The Guardian, the UK’s Telegraph, the Mexican weekly Dia Siete, The New York Times, Stern, Walrus Magazine and the Brazilian Folha de Sao Paulo. Since 2005 he has been working primarily in Brazil on a long-term independently financed documentary project on the effects of habitat and mass urbanization entitled Meta Sao Paulo. With the support of the UN Habitat program he begins exhibiting in 2008 in Europe and Mexico. In the summer of 2007 he completed the work on his first upcoming book The Sons of Evora, on Portuguese bullfighters.
Dominic Nahr: Dominic Nahr was raised in Hong Kong where he established himself as a photojournalist. There, he worked for the South China Morning Post as a staff photographer. In 2007, while still attending university in Toronto, Dominic became a freelance photographer, being commissioned by magazines such as Newsweek, GQ Magazine, The Fader, The Globe and Mail Report on Business. His photographs also appeared in PDN, British Journal for Photography, Magenta’s Flash Forward and American Photography.
Earl Baumgardner: Since 2005 Earl have been documenting humanitarian issues around the world. He use photography, video and the Internet to give a voice to those in need. He have worked in countries around the world covering earthquakes in Haiti to the military in the Philippines.
Ed Kashi: photojournalist, filmmaker and educator dedicated to documenting the social and political issues that define our times. A sensitive eye and an intimate relationship to his subjects are the signatures of his work. Kashi’s complex imagery has been recognized for its compelling rendering of the human condition. “I take on issues that stir my passions about the state of humanity and our world, and I deeply believe in the power of still images to change people’s minds. I’m driven by this fact; that the work of photojournalists and documentary photographers can have a positive impact on the world. The access people give to their lives is precious as well as imperative for this important work to get done. Their openness brings with it a tremendous sense of responsibility to tell the truth but to also honor their stories.” Kashi’s images have been published and exhibited worldwide. His innovative approach to photography and filmmaking produced the Iraqi Kurdistan Flipbook. Using stills in a moving image format, this creative and thought-provoking form of visual storytelling has been shown in many film festivals and as part of a series of exhibitions on the Iraq War at The George Eastman House. An eight-year personal project completed in 2003, Aging in America: The Years Ahead, created a traveling exhibition, an award-winning documentary film, a website and a book which was named one of the best photo books of 2003 by American Photo. Along with numerous awards, including honors from Pictures of the Year International, World Press Foundation, Communication Arts and American Photography, Kashi’s editorial assignments and personal projects have generated four books. In 2008, his latest books will be published, both by powerHouse Books; Curse of the Black Gold: 50 Years of Oil in the Niger Delta and Three.
Farzana Wahidy: At the age of 24, Farzana Wahidy has been a photographer for Agence France-Presse and the Associated Press. She was born in Afghanistan but now resides in the United States. The National Geographic All Roads Film Festival recently recognized her work by awarding her seed money and equipment to assist in her field work. Farzana was initially trained at Aina Photo Agency (founded by Reza), and her work in Afghanistan is remarkable. It underscores how many indigenous photographers and photojournalists are often better storytellers than non-indigenous professionals, and gives the photographs an imprimatur of authenticity..
Fotofugitive: Tim Humble is an international humanitarian, world and cultural assignment photographer. This makes him uniquely qualified to provide tailored photography and digital imaging services to NGOs, Churches, and other religious and cultural organisations.
Geza J. Holzinger: Freelance photojournalist and writer specialized in humanitarian photojournalism, documenting the current social and political conflicts, humanitarian crises and environmental destruction. With my shoots I would like to make attention to injustices and the big differents in our world experience.
Hélène Caux: Hélène Caux has been combining humanitarian aid work and photography for the past fourteen years, collaborating or working regularly with the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR). Born in Amiens, France, she earned a master’s degree in American history from the Sorbonne University and an advanced degree in journalism from the Institut Pratique de Journalisme in Paris. Caux has covered the humanitarian crisis in Darfur and eastern Chad since 2004, when she spent a year working along the Chad/Sudan border. Since then, she has travelled extensively to the region. Her photo exhibition Surviving Darfur was on display at the National Geographic Hall in Washington in 2005, and has toured the United States showing at the World Affairs Council of Northern California, the Senate Rotunda in Washington DC, and the Muhamed Ali Center in Kentucky.
James Nachtwey: Photojournalist James Nachtwey is considered by many to be the greatest war photographer of recent decades. He has covered conflicts and major social issues in more than 30 countries. For the past three decades, James Nachtwey has devoted himself to documenting wars, conflicts and critical social issues, working in El Salvador, Nicaragua, Guatemala, Lebanon, the West Bank and Gaza, Israel, Indonesia, Thailand, India, Sri Lanka, Afghanistan, the Philippines, South Korea, Somalia, Sudan, Rwanda, South Africa, Russia, Bosnia, Chechnya, Kosovo, Romania, Brazil and the United States. Nachtwey has been a contract photographer with Time since 1984. However, when certain stories he wanted to cover -- such as Romanian orphanages and famine in Somalia -- garnered no interest from magazines, he self-financed trips there. He is known for getting up close to his subjects, or as he says, "in the same intimate space that the subjects inhabit," and he passes that sense of closeness on to the viewer.
Jared Moossy: Jared Moossy is a Texan born documentary photographer based in Dallas, Texas. He graduated from Parsons School of Design in New York City in May of 2008 and is currently represented by Redux Pictures in New York City. His interest in photography goes hand in hand with his interest in current events and social issues. His professional career has mostly been focused on changing country of Afghanistan and the heightened tension of Mexico’s Internal war on Drugs. “For me photography at its most fundamental level still remains an exploratory tool as much as it is an art and it is increasingly how I understand the world.” Jared attended the Eddie Adams Workshop in 2008 and won the PDN Photo Annual and Marty Forcher fellowship fund in 2008. Jared was also awarded the PDN 30 in 2009. He has worked with and been published in Newsweek, Time, The Wall Street Journal, Stern, Magazine, Conde Nast Traveler, Die Ziet and several others.
Jean Chung: Jean Chung is an award-winning photographer who gained international acclaim for her photographic documentations in Afghanistan and Africa. She has worked as a full-time photojournalist in Asia, the Middle East, and Africa since 2004. Among her major awards are the Grand Prix Care International du Reportage Humanitaire at Visa pour l’Image Photo Festival in Perpignan in 2007, the first prize of Days Japan Competition in 2008, Pierre and Alexandra Boulat Award in Perpignan in 2008, and WHO Stop TB Award in 2008. She is now based in Seoul, South Korea.
João Pina: Photographer João Pina is originally from Lisbon, Portugal. Pina’s work has been published in The New York Times, Newsweek, GEO Magazine, D Magazine, Days Japan, and Visão to name just a few. Currently Pina is based in Buenos Aires, Argentina, where he continues to document the remnants of a military operation named Operation Condor aimed at destroying the political opposition to the military dictatorships in South America during the 1970s. With a population of nearly 10 million people, Rio De Janerio, Brazil remains to be one of the most violent cities in the world. João Pina implanted himself in the heart of city to document this extreme violence having the rare and unique opportunity to follow the military police units, as well as the opposing young men, the leaders and bosses of their communities, who traffic drugs in the “favelas”.
Karl Grobl: KTraveling to the far corners of the world to tell compelling picture stories, award-winning humanitarian photojournalist Karl Grobl reveals the human side of issues faced by people across the globe. His images highlight those basic human elements that comprise the fabric binding all cultures together in our rapidly homogenizing, yet sometimes divided, global community.
Kate Holt: Kate Holt trained as journalist with the BBC and subsequently studied Photojournalism at the London College of Printing. She has travelled extensively and her work has been published in many publications including the Sunday Times Magazine, The Times, The Independent, the Observer and Marie Claire.
Kristian Bertel: Kristian initially worked as a graphic designer before turning to photography. His decisive moment came in 2006, when he discovered portrait photography and began shooting people. He is mostly known for his series of Indian images, which started as a long-term project on India in 2008. He started out by taking humanitarian-based images of the Indian people and their life conditions. He turned his attention to documentary photography and his work is published on Kristian Bertel | Photography, which contains 12 galleries that describe common life in India. At around this period he came to the attention of poverty in the Indian cities and he began to document child beggars. He shot a seminal essay on India’s street children called ‘Child Beggars of New Delhi’, an essay, where his pictures became more photojournalistic motivated. Since then, Kristian Bertel has ventured to South America.
Lynsey Addario: Lynsey Addario is a photojournalist whose powerful images are visual testimony to the most pressing conflicts and humanitarian crises of the 21st century. In a time when many readers are becoming numb to the constant flow of images of war, death, and suffering, Addario combines a rigorous journalistic approach with a keen artistic eye to render events in Afghanistan, Darfur, Iraq, and elsewhere in startling and unexpected ways. Her vibrant color photographs of refugee camps in Darfur reveal both the cruelties that have been perpetrated as well as the dignity and humanity of the victims. Relentless in her pursuit of images that evoke an overall narrative, she has gained access to regions and peoples often closed to outsiders. Free of a singular didactic perspective, her photographic essays from Afghanistan and Iraq depict the underlying realities of war: the pain, confusion, and exhilaration of being a soldier; the daily struggles for civilians, especially children, living in a war zone; and the lives of Taliban leaders. A regular theme in Addario’s work is capturing the lives of women in male-dominated societies. Her most recent project involves photographing survivors of gender-based violence in the Congo and is part of a traveling exhibition intended to increase awareness of the ongoing human rights abuses taking place there. Addario’s dedication to demystifying foreign cultures and exposing the tragic consequences of human conflict is drawing much-needed attention to conflict zones around the world and providing a valuable historical record for future generations.
Marcus Bleasdale: Marcus Bleasdale is one of the worlds leading documentary photographers. He increasingly uses his work to influence decision makers and policy makers around the world. His work on Human Rights and Conflict have been shown at the US Senate, The United Nations and the Houses of Parliament in the UK. Marcus work also appears in the New Yorker, The New York Times, The Sunday Times Magazine, The Telegraph Magazine, Stern, Le Monde, TIME Magazine, Newsweek and National Geographic.
Moises Saman: Moises Saman was born in Lima(Peru) in 1974 and grew up in Spain until his late teenage years, then relocating to the United States to study Communications and Sociology. Moises started working as a professional photographer in New York and became a Staff Photographer at New York Newsday from 2000-2007 before going freelance in late 2007. Since 2001 Moises has concentrated on covering the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, the ongoing wars in Afghanistan and Iraq, as well as projects in Pakistan, Nepal, Cuba, Haiti, Lebanon, Central Asia and South America. Moises Saman lives in New York City and is currently represented by Magnum Photos (www.magnumphotos.com). He is a regular contributor for The New York Times, Newsweek, and Human Rights Watch, among other international clients.
Nigel Dickinson: Photographer, photojournalist, documentary and editorial features, with such as Figaro, Geo, Marie Claire, Stern, Le Monde, Vogue, The Independent, La Vanguardia, D Republicca, Wired magazine plus corporate and commercial clients. Based mainly in Paris and travels worldwide, Nigel has several personal photographic projects on the go. He is finishing his 12 year project on Roma Gypsies across Europe, awarded 2nd prize – Eugene Smith Award 2000. Fascinated by the vitality and sheer determination of peoples, communities who find themselves on the periphery, marginalized from the mainstream – he works with Roma Gypsies & Street Children.
Paolo Pellegrin: aolo Pellegrin was born in 1964 in Rome. He became a Magnum Photos nominee in 2001 and a full member in 2005. He is a contract photographer for Newsweek magazine. Pellegrin is winner of many awards, including eight World Press Photo and numerous Photographer of the Year Awards, a Leica Medal of Excellence, an Olivier Rebbot Award, the Hansel-Meith Preis, and the Robert Capa Gold Medal Award. In 2006 he was assigned the W. Eugene Smith Grant in Humanistic Photography. He is one of the founding members of the touring exhibition and installation Off Broadway along with Thomas Dworzak, Alex Majoli and Ilkka Uimonen. He has published four books. He lives in New York and Rome.
Ron Haviv: Award-winning photojournalist Ron Haviv has produced some of the most important images of conflict and other humanitarian crises that have made headlines from around the world since the end of the Cold War. A co-founder of VII, whose work is published by top magazines worldwide, including: Fortune, The NY Times Magazine, Time, Vanity Fair, Paris Match and Stern. He has published two critically acclaimed collections of his photography — Blood and Honey: A Balkan War Journal, and Afghanistan: On the Road to Kabul – and has contributed his wide-ranging body of work to several other books. With a special focus on exposing human rights violations, he has covered conflict and humanitarian crises in Latin America, Africa, the Middle East, Russia and the Balkans. Most recently, he has documented wars in Darfur and the DR Congo. His often-searing photographs have earned Haviv some of the highest accolades in photography, including awards from World Press Photo, Pictures of the Year, Overseas Press Club, and the Leica Medal of Excellence. He regularly lectures at universities and seminars, and numerous museums and galleries have featured his work, including the United Nations, The Louvre and The Council on Foreign Relations.
Ryan Spencer Reed: Ryan Spencer Reed is an American photographer. He has worked in central and east Africa in the capacity of a photojournalist covering the Sudanese Diaspora since 2002. After returning from covering the War in Darfur, in late summer 2004, he and his work have moved about North America to universities in the form of traveling exhibitions and lectures. They have become the driving force, and ultimately the cultural backdrop, for broader symposiums designed to grapple with the issues facing the Sudanese people. The Open Society Institute & Soros Foundation awarded him with the Documentary Photography Project's Distribution Grant in 2006. While exhibiting and speaking internationally on the subject, his documentation of Sudan continues.
Sebastiao Salgado: Brazilian photographer Sebastião Salgado is one of the most respected photojournalists working today. Appointed a UNICEF Special Representative on 3 April 2001, he has dedicated himself to chronicling the lives of the world's dispossessed, a work that has filled ten books and many exhibitions and for which he has won numerous awards in Europe and in the Americas.
Stephanie Sinclair: Stephanie Sinclair, 35, is an American photojournalist represented by VII photo agency. Based in Brooklyn, New York, she is known for gaining unique access to the most sensitive gender issues and human rights around the world. Sinclair graduated from the University of Florida with a B.S. in journalism and an outside concentration in fine art photography. After college, she went to work for the Chicago Tribune, which sent her to cover the start of the war in Iraq. She later moved to Iraq and then to Beirut, Lebanon, covering the region for six years as a freelance photographer. She contributes regularly to National Geographic, the New York Times Magazine, Time, Newsweek, Stern, GEO, and Marie Claire, among others.
Stephan Vanfleteren: His radical black-and-white documentary work covers the disappearance of small, anarchic worlds and the phenomena of everyday life in his homeland Belgium as well as events from world's conflict zones to every day life around the world. He also interested in portraying artists, actors, writers, directors, musicians and all other people that express themselves by their profession.

Teun Voeten: Dutch photographer, Teun Voeten, is an award winning photojournalist and author. His work has been featured in publications such as Vanity Fair, Newsweek, The New Yorker, and National Geographic, among others. Tom Stoddart: Tom Stoddart, pragmatic and talented journalist, has photographed many of the world’s major events. From the fighting around the Palestinian refugee camps in Beirut during the 1980s, to his documentation of the siege of Sarajevo (1992 – 1995) to the AIDS pandemic in sub-Saharan Africa, his astonishing images have consistently taken magazine and newspaper readers that much closer to the heart of the matter.

FotoEvidence: FotoEvidence is founded to continue the tradition of using photography to draw attention to human rights violations, injustice, oppression and assaults on sovereignty or human dignity wherever they may occur. Every year the FotoEvidence Book Award will recognize a photo project documenting evidence of a violation of human rights.
Magnum Photos: Magnum Photos is a cooperative photography agency with offices in London, Paris, Tokyo and New York, founded in 1947 by Henri Cartier Bresson, Robert Capa and others. Site features biographies and bibliographies of all the photographers, and searchable archives.
